“There are two kinds of people: Those who say to God, “Thy will be done,” and those to whom God says, “All right, then have it your way.”

-C.S. Lewis-

I love this quote and C.S. Lewis is absolutely amazing!  He teaches such a profound principle here that really relates to our faith in a major way.  I have thought about this often since Angelica was taken back and our home was stripped of the wonderful spirit she brought.  Do we truly pray to God in order to understand His will for us, and for our families?  With a constant flow of power, prayer can be a guiding light to allow God’s will to be presented to you in your life.  If the gift that is given is patience, does it come with a sudden change of heart?  More appropriately, I think it comes with a disobedient child, being cut off while driving, or losing one’s keys for the up-teenth time.  God doesn't give us what we can’t handle, but He does allow for us to discover the depth of our resolve to change.  If life were a catalog and all the choices grand, how many of us would choose pain, suffering, and challenge? It seems to me that for us to learn love God puts the weary, hungry, and tired in our lives for us to lift them up.  Can we learn to love someone that has never been loved before?  Do we dare to look silly or foolish if that is perhaps the path we should walk?  Is it that we only love God when he answers the call on time and in “our way?”  To learn to be kind does God change our heart to gold?  Is it only His efforts that plants change in our hearts….or…is it daily diligent seeking with hope in His love and perfect knowledge.  Do we actually believe that God will help us?  We say we believe in Him, but often we just don’t believe him.  I visit a man in our neighborhood who is struggling through divorce and the other day I asked him if he prayed.  He said, “No.” I asked a number of other questions about his faith in God and Jesus; as well as, his frequency in reading the scriptures.  He said that he did believe in God, but he wasn’t going to pray.  How can we think that God will take care of us if we don’t communicate with him?  Can we build a forever family if our children don’t know where to go for strength and comfort?  We are taught in the scriptures that we must pray that our actions can be consecrated by the Lord for our good.  If we feel that our ceiling is made of brass and that our prayers are not heard, then maybe we aren't praying for the right thing.  As Genesis and I started we prayed that the time would go quickly and that we would be able to be sealed for time and all eternity with our new found Angel.  As time wore on our hearts were changed.  We learned to love the unlovable, to think about the unthinkable, and give a hand to someone worth saving.  We started praying that Angel would grow up with the gospel in her heart, and that she might be taught about God and Jesus.  Maybe she was my lesson on “coming unto Christ” because I have never felt closer.  As we build our forever family and search for those spirits that we can love and teach we often must remember that it is in God’s perfect timing, and it goes by his wristwatch not the silly digital timer on our cell phones.  Don’t give up on God and build a family worth spending eternity with.

Your friend,
Jason
